Alness Academy is a six year comprehensive school serving the small town of Alness,
the villages of Evanton and Ardross and the surrounding rural area.
Along with five associated primary schools it was one of the pilot
New Community Schools in the Highlands. The school roll is currently 513 pupils
(session 2008/2009).
The school is very well resourced in terms of accommodation,
which includes a multi-purpose Concourse, a hundred seat Lecture Theatre and a
moderate sized Library. The school is also well resourced in terms of
information technology and all the departments have their own computing
facilities. We have our own playing fields and PE Complex including a 25
metre swimming pool.
Alness Academy is very proud of its caring attitude and its reputation within the Community. There is a pupil support team at present comprising of nine teachers and eleven auxiliary staff and this includes Learning Support, support for Additional Support Needs and one Behaviour Support teacher. This integrated support team works very closely with the Guidance department, Children's Services Worker, Youth Workers and other agencies. There is a very full extra-curricular life within the school involving sports, music and drama. The school has several links with European countries.
Parents are always welcome in Alness Academy and more formal contact with parents is established through parents evenings. There is involvement with the local community through a number of avenues. The school is well served by an active and supportive Parent Council.
Alness Academy was one of the earliest schools in Scotland to be recognised as Investors in People and in June 2007 received Scotland's Health at Work (Shaw) Gold award. We are now an accredited; Health Promoting School. Pupils are encouraged to play a role in the wider community and this was recognised in August 2003 by the school receiving the Princess Diana Silver Award for encouraging Citizenship. In June 2008 we received our first Eco Schools Green Flag. In November 2008 Alness Academy won a Highland Council Quality Award for it's first year transition residential.
The telephone number for the school is 01349 883341.
